⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Ringabel
Age: 23...ish
Canon: Bravely Default
Canon Point: Ending of Bravely Default, as he sets off in an attempt to go to his own world.

Background: At the beginning of the game, Ringabel has no background. He was found outside of the city of Caldisla, wandering and lost. Even 'Ringabel' is only a nickname given to him by the townspeople. He considers himself a man of mystery with only his journal to give him clues to the past. Unfortunately, said journal contains nothing but prophecies of the future. Hoping that it will shed some light on who he really is, he decides to follow said prophecies and thus, seeks out the people mentioned in it - Tiz Arrior, Agnes Oblige, and most of all Edea Lee. They have no idea who he is, but with his charming smile, his handsome visage, and his pleading and begging (not to mention, he's the only person in the group who can pilot an airship), they agree to bring him along. Together they fight the evil Duchy of Eternia to right wrongs and cleanse the world of Darkness.

The longer that their quest goes on, the more it separates from the words in the journal, until the events are no longer alike at all. Ringabel seems perplexed by this turns of events, as though having has a crisis of faith (or superstition).

It's not until midway through the game that we find out why he has no past. Their final enemy before cleansing the world of darkness is Eternia's Dark Knight, Alternis Dim. After defeating him, his mask breaks and reveals his face - one that is absolutely identical to Ringabel's. Before any questions can be asked, Alternis is thrown from the side of their airship by the turbulence, leaving behind a journal that is again, identical to Ringabel's. Ringabel's response to this? Ignore it completely, for as long as he can.

Eventually, he finally remembers and accepts that he is the Dark Knight Alternis Dim from one of many parallel worlds.

Alternis was born in Florem, a country which held sacred the four crystals powering the world. Florem in particular was known for its chasteness and purity in its devotion, and only women were allowed to live within it's gates. It's implied that Alternis was abandoned due to his sex, and he states that he survived purely on hatred - for his mother, for the world, and for himself. He lived in the slums of Florem until his 'blade of darkness' was turned aside by a blade of light - that of Braev Lee, who had recently overthrown the Crystalist powers in Eternia.

Braev took Alternis back to Eternia with him to raise him in Eternia under their Anti-Crystalist ideals. From there, Alternis would grow to become infatuated and utterly devoted to the Lee family, especially Brave's daughter, for whom he harbored tender feelings. Early on, he is said to be shy and quiet and somewhat wimpy, needed to be protected by his 'little sister' from bullies, and never speaks to anyone. But he quickly grows out of this, though he remains selfless and one-minded in his devotion for the Lees.

While it's never really stated when he received the Dark Knight asterisk, he did receive it at an extremely young age (10-12 years before the start of the game, and he's 20 in the Japanese version). The Dark Knight asterisk is one that derives power from pain. The more pain that he suffers, the stronger that he becomes. Using this Asterisk, Alternis entered the military and rose through the ranks very quickly, becoming eventually a member of the Council of Six, the body that rules the Duchy of Eternia. There, he continues to be very loyal to Braev and carries out his tasks diligently and unquestioningly, even when they involve the potential death of the girl that he loves.

(For the rest of this section, I will be using "Ringabel" and "Alternis" to attempt to differentiate between what happened to Ringabel (the Alternis Dim of W6) and Alternis (from W5).)

Ringabel's journal details what happens to him before he appears with amnesia in Caldisla. He was asked to go undercover in the Caldisla of his world to stake out its defenses. In doing so, he is there when the catastrophe that is the Great Chasm and the darkening the crystals occurs, and sees firsthand the effect that it has on the world. Ringabel saves Tiz Arrior from Norende's ruins, and meets a young woman named Agnes Oblige.

Upon returning to the Duchy, he finds out that Agnes was none other than the Wind Vestal, the woman that the Duchy is looking for. Not only that, but his beloved Edea has joined her side, along with Tiz Arrior. The journal continues to detail how Agnes and her crew - Edea and Tiz - journeyed across the land of Luxendarc and awoke the crystals one by one. While many of the pages in Ringabel's journal are missing, using Alternis's journal, we can infer that he crossed paths with Agnes, Edea, and Tiz several times.

It is the last time that is the most worthy of mentioning. After spending several weeks recovering from a fall into lava, Ringabel discovers that the Wind Vestal and her party are on their way to Eternia. Braev Lee tells Ringabel the dark secret behind the crystals - that while they do govern the forces of Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth, they can also punch through the barriers between worlds should they be brought out of control. This is what the Wind Vestal has been doing during her quest. Braev also gives Ringabel one last mission - he is to seek out the Holy Pillar, which is a column of light that will appear once all four crystals are "awoken". Ringabel accepts this mission with a heavy heart - if the Holy Pillar appears, it means that Braev Lee will have been killed.

When the Holy Pillar appears, Ringabel stands ready for the Wind Vestal and her crew. What he is not ready for is the monstrous creature that appears on the deck of their airship. Frozen in fear, he could do nothing but stand in the shadows and watch as Agnes, Tiz, and Edea were slaughtered before his eyes. While he is able to scribble a portrait of the creature, and ominous warning with the number '6', he is no match for the beast and is thrown from the side of the airship, into the Holy Pillar, and into the world beyond.

It's not exactly known what caused him to lose his memory, whether it was a head injury or the sheer shock of the carnage that he witnessed, but the trauma was enough to wipe his mind completely. It is only after several worlds, and several holy pillars, does he begin to regain his memory, bit by very slow, painful bit. As more of it comes back, he begins to cast suspicion upon Airy, the Cryst-Fairy that guides Agnes in awakening the Crystals. Why is she so adamant about awakening the crystals when previous tries have not worked, and why have the numbers on the pattern of her wings been counting down?

Have a wiki link with a little more information!!!!

Personality: Ringabel is... an experience. The game never goes into detail on what exactly caused such a drastic change in his personality. As Alternis, he came across stoic, stalwart, and a little shy, bottling up his emotions deep inside. As Ringabel, he is anything but.

First and foremost, Ringabel is nothing if not dramatic. Waking up a blank slate, with no memories, past, or any frame of reference for himself aside from the journal, it appears he based quite a bit of his personality on the very purple prose within its pages, filled with love and admiration for Edea Lee. As such, he fancies himself a ladies' man, in search of the Angel mentioned in his trusty journal's pages. He's not always very successful with his philandering, as he is not as charming and suave as he thinks he is, but he does put in an genuine effort (and oddly enough, he has a decent success rate with NPC women). Of course, his one true love is the Angel as foretold in the journal, Edea Lee - though the reality of her very strong personality is much different than the idealized version of her in the book. No matter! He will persevere and love her anyway, and they will live happily ever after, right?

For a good part of the game, he exists as comic relief. He's always there with some sharp remark, usually one that borders on the inappropriate. He says this all in a jovial, lively tone with an over-the-top accent and a flourish of his hands. He's willing to play the fool if it will get him attention, or make someone smile. Of course, he does pout when he's shut down or ignored, but easily picks himself back up and continues on his merry ways.

However, while he may seem shallow and misogynist on the outside, at his core Ringabel is actually a very nice, sweet person. He sincerely appreciates women as the fairer sex; to him they are special, and should be cherished. And he is completely willing to do that cherishing so long as the woman gives him enough time to prepare and get his mental resources all lined up for pick up lines and witty comebacks!

His niceness generally extends to anyone who isn't currently trying to harm him or his companions. He is quite polite, for all of his talk of women in bikinis, and is willing to offer assistance to anyone in need. Ringabel also shows a rare thoughtful side, such as when he convinces Agnes that compromising on her vegetarianism to survive is okay, consoling Tiz over his nightmares and his survivor's guilt, and reassuring Edea about her father's possible involvement in a dreadful, toxic takeover plot. Now and then, he even manages to make philosophical statements (such as how wars get started, and how people fight for their vision of peace), which seem to take others off guard.

As his memories awaken, Ringabel slowly becomes less silly and much more reserved. He never becomes quite as serious as he was as Alternis, but he begins to present himself in a drastically different manner, including dropping his accent and actually thinking about his words before he says them. While he seems to have a permanently damaged brain-to-mouth filter, his inappropriate comments do lessen quite a bit, especially in regards to Edea, whom he grows to sincerely love.

More than anything, Ringabel likes feeling useful. This was a trait that he carried as Alternis Dim, and a trait he has as Ringabel as well. He is quite handy in a pinch, is rather good with working with his hands and repairing things, and above all wants to protect those that he cares for. He sees himself, and tries to act like, an older brother figure to the rest of the party (even if his feelings for Edea are anything but brotherly), offering a sympathetic ear and some wise advice, whether or not he remembers where said advice came from. When his memories have returned, he also seeks to redeem himself and atone for his cowardly actions that led to the death of the Agnes, Tiz, and Edea from his world.

It is with atonement in mind, that despite loving his friends very deeply, the end of the game seems him setting out for his own world - knowing full well that his family has been destroyed there. His sense of duty to the Lees continues even after their deaths, and he wants to bury them, clean up his home country as best he can, and possibly move on - if the fates will allow it.

Abilities: In Luxendarc, abilities are usually learned through little stones called Asterisks that provide people with Jobs. In the game, the party gathers up 23 different Asterisks, not including the default 'Freelancer', over the span of their journey.

Ringabel is the Master of the Dark Knight asterisk, and is able to use its abilities almost as naturally as breathing, even when he's naked (at least in the prose - game mechanics means he has to learn everything all over again). He is stronger after he's been attacked and is hurting. While it's very possible that the party mastered all the asterisks, for the purpose of an RP, Ringabel would really only focus on the asterisks that aligned with his natural abilities. With that in mind, the asterisks that he would focus on are Dark Knight, Ninja, Red Mage, Knight, and White Mage. Also Performer, because he likes the outfit.

Alignment: Elios. Ringabel is pretty much the scale between hatred and love. (An) Alternis admits that when he was young, hatred was his sustenance and Ringabel himself is full of love, not just for Edea but for his friends, and any other pretty ladies that might fall across his path. Ringabel is MADE of love, aside from the self-loathing that he still experiences.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample:

Sample # 1. Have a test drive link! However since I am aware it is a little short;

Sample # 2. Honestly, he has no idea how he's ended up here. Agnes is the one with the penchant for getting lost, after all. Perhaps it's just fate? Or good luck. Whatever the reason, he finds himself trying to hold back tears as he watches two complete strangers get married, exchanging their vows and sealing their love for the rest of their lives. How lucky they are, to have found one another!

It's so sweet he can practically taste it.

That hint of of sweetness is still in his mouth as he's swept in the crowd toward the reception, dabbing tears off his face. The sugary taste of them is a bit disconcerting, really, but it can't quite dampen his joy - he's willing to tolerate a little sweetness in exchange for seeing real happiness. Luckily, as the euphoria fades to a more bittersweet happiness, and he watches couples dance on the floor, the sugary aftertaste gives way to something a bit more tolerable. The rose bouquet he'd chosen to stand next to now blooms brightly next to him, it's red petals fading to a more muted white right before his eyes. It's pretty, and he smiles at it even as its vines latch onto his arm, thorns digging in. He forces himself to ignore that, because the last thing he wants to do is make anyone's special day any less special.

"Here, for you, my dear. A lovely rose to bring out your even lovelier eyes," he says cheerfully to a passing young lady, offering her one of the roses right off the vine and off his arm. He would prefer right now to continue to spread the joy and love for this couple! Which yes, does include handing a flower as well to the young woman's boyfriend right behind her. "And for you, sir!"

Questions: Nooope.
